Park Hill Phase 5 Submitted for Planning Permission

Park Hill Phase 5, the concluding step in the extensive redevelopment of the Grade II* listed Park Hill housing estate, has been formally submitted for planning permission. Spearheaded by developer Urban Splash, this phase signifies a significant milestone in the ongoing transformation of the iconic brutalist Sheffield landmark.

Scheduled to incorporate 200 square metres of commercial space and 105 residential units, Phase 5 is committed to enhancing community accessibility, with 20 percent of the homes designated as affordable housing.

Austin-Smith:Lord has been serving as the Landscape Architect for the Park Hill project since 2016, working in collaboration with Lead Consultant and architect Mikhail Riches. Phase 2 was completed in 2022, with phases 4 and 5 currently ongoing.

Originally erected between 1957-61 by the Corporation of Sheffield, Park Hill stands as a testament to the history of mass social housing, boasting the title of Europe’s largest listed building. Despite enduring challenges over the years, including urban decay and socio-economic pressures, Park Hill remains a revered icon on the Sheffield skyline.

Park Hill’s renovation efforts have garnered recognition, with Phase 2 winning the Dezeen awards for both Project of the Year and Sustainable Renovation of the Year. It has also been shortlisted in the 2024 RIBA Yorkshire Awards.

As the redevelopment progresses, Park Hill’s narrative continues to evolve, symbolising resilience and renewal in the heart of Sheffield’s urban landscape.
