Gaiety Theatre, Ayr
Austin-Smith:Lord led the design team for the very recently completed Ayr Gaiety Theatre, including a full refurbishment of the Grade B Listed auditorium.
This followed on from phase one of the refurbishment, completed in early 2015, which included a new dedicated ticket desk, the redesign of the main entrance, and a new shopfront.
The main auditorium was designed by Alexander Cullen of Cullen, Lockhead and Brown, Hamilton in 1903 following a fire in the stage and fly tower. The entire auditorium was re-modelled and fire proofed with circle and balcony reconstructed in concrete and steel with the addition of six boxes finished in a Rococo style.
The work has rejuvenated the interior back to its Edwardian splendor with subtle colours and new seating all in keeping with the intimate interior. New lighting and sound systems together with new ventilation and heating systems have all been sensitively woven into the category B listed fabric.

Over eight years ago, Ayr Gaiety Partnership dreamt about this day. I am overwhelmed and delighted by the response we’ve received from our local and national partners and members of the community who continue to support us as we step into our next chapter.
